About Medical/Legal Assessment Services

Motor vehicle accidents, work-related injuries (WSIB cases), slip-and-fall incidents, and diseases leading to long-term disability (LTD) can cause a lot of pain and distress; let us accelerate your road to recovery!

For over 15 years, the Wilderman Medical Clinic has completed legal assessments and reports for personal injury lawyers and their clients across Ontario. We offer assessment services, both in-person and virtually, for Accident Benefits through OCF-18 forms Independent Medical Examination (IME) reports for SABS cases, and medical-legal assessment reports for TORT cases.

WMC provides professional, unbiased medical assessments of patients. The clinical findings of these assessments are used, in combination with a careful review of the patient’s medical records, to formulate an objective medical opinion of a patient’s diagnoses and required future treatments and assessments.

These reports are a third-party medical assessment providing a professional medical opinion and expertise regarding an individual’s sustained injuries, prognosis, and required future treatment.

The services currently available are as follows:

The Wilderman Medical Clinic provides a FREE Catastrophic Impairment Calculator to identify individuals who are catastrophically impaired. The calculator is offered to patients and lawyers to determine potential eligibility and to help those who may find themselves paying for many services out-of-pocket that should rightly be covered to aid in their recovery and medical maintenance process.

What is the purpose of the Medical/Legal assessment?

The information collected during the assessment is reviewed and conveyed in a professional report highlighting the physician’s medical opinion on the individual injury claim.

The report includes multiple factors that take into account how an accident or injury has affected the individual’s ability to function physically, emotionally, and psychologically.

The following factors are addressed:

  1. Diagnosis of the claimant’s condition
  2. An opinion as to whether the claimant’s current symptoms result directly or indirectly from the injuries suffered in the accident/incident
  3. The effect of the sustained injuries and impairments on the claimant’s ability to perform the duties of his/her employment functions
  4. The effects of his/her sustained injuries and impairments on activities of daily living
  5. The effects of his/her sustained injuries and impairments on housekeeping and home maintenance
  6. Treatment recommendations
  7. The prognosis

The report highlights restrictions and difficulties an individual may face due to ongoing symptoms and impairments following an injury or accident. As well, the report evaluates a person’s ability to mentally and physically function performing various everyday tasks as a result of the injury.

It communicates findings and opinions in a comprehensive manner that is professional and outlined in language that all parties will understand.

Our WMC promise:

First and foremost, each and every patient is treated with professionalism, compassion, and respect. Our medical/legal reports are consistently objective, evidence-based, and unbiased, and are compiled with each patient’s unique circumstances, as well as their health and wellbeing in mind.

What to expect on the day of your assessment:

In order to have an efficient and effective appointment, there are several ways to prepare for your assessment.

1. Time – These appointments can typically last over two hours and we ask that you please be patient and plan your time accordingly.

2. Information – Be aware that the physician and his team will be conducting an interview with you in order to develop a better understanding of your overall functioning pre- and post-accident/injury, what types of injuries and impairments you sustained, and how these impairments impact various facets of your life, including your ability to work, care for loved ones, participate in recreational activities, and perform daily tasks, such as household chores.

3. Cooperation – Remember, we are trying to help. We understand that navigating this process can be frustrating, and we are doing everything we can to make the process as easy as possible. The more detailed and accurate you are able to be in the information you provide, the more effectively we can advocate for you.

On the day of your appointment please arrive early with your health card (which is used for identification purposes only) to check in with the receptionist.

Wear comfortable and loose clothing to the appointment, as you will be asked to perform different movements and actions in order to assess the location and extent of your injuries, as well as to help the physician understand the mechanisms of your pain.

Please also bring a current list of medications.
