About Neuropathic Pain

Neuropathic pain can develop as a result of damage or injury to nerves and nerve fibers and usually results in pain, tingling, and numbness in the affected areas.

It is a chronic condition that may require medication, rehabilitation, and long-term management.

Conditions such as diabetes, trigeminal neuralgia, fibromyalgia, cancer, or spine injuries can cause neuropathic pain, but they can also be caused by amputations.

These sorts of injuries impact, and sometimes impede, the body’s ability to recognize and properly interpret the signals to and from the brain, resulting in the body registering a pain sensation.

There are many options for minimizing or managing neuropathic pain. Patients can be provided with medications, meditation or pain management techniques, acupuncture, massage, physiotherapy, or TENS devices.

Patients should always check with their medical provider before attempting any sort of treatment.
